Once upon a time (for all the best stories start with these words) in a faraway place called Texas , the Kitty who lived was born. At first he was just like all his brothers and sisters, although he was quite small. But when they all opened their eyes, he couldn’t see very well. The other kitties wouldn’t let him eat and he became sad and when they grew big, he stayed small.
All the kitties were at the adoption place and soon, he was all alone. Then a lady came and took him home. But, she brought him back to the place, and never came back.
He was very sad and didn’t want to eat. And there was something wrong- he couldn’t see at all!
Then a man came and took him to a nice place, and cleaned his eyes and he could see a little again. But after a while, he was back at the place. Seemed like nobody wanted him. He didn’t want to eat and there was no one to play with.
The people tried to find him a home and they were nice, but it was cold and lonely at the place. Especially at night.
One day , they took him to a big noisy store and put him in another cage. He didn't like it there. but some people would play with him, and open his cage! But they always put him back. They were taking all the lonely kitties back to the place when another lady opened his cage. She picked him up and gave him a big kiss and said to a man To hold him!! And the three of them left the noisy store.
They took him to what they called home- and there was another cat there. His name was Face and he explained to the new kitty, about Mommy and Dad, and what kitties job was. Face told him that there had been other kitties and Mom and Dad loved them, but the special kitty hadn’t come yet. Face was going to stay until Homer (that was his new name) learned everything he needed to know about his humans.
The Mommy and Dad took him to the vet and they gave him medicine and shots, but when they went home the Mommy was crying. Face told him that they didn’t think that Homer would stay with them, but Face thought that Homer could be the special kitty. And helped him stay.
But Face was nearing his time. And he taught Homer to climb and run and how to steal pork chops. Face loved Pork chops. And when the time came- Face crossed the bridge and promised Homer that Mommy and Dad would love him and one day when Homers job was done, Face would show him to the Rainbow place.
And Homer stayed. And learned to drink with his paw, and went to live in a new place. Homer learned about snow and backyards and riding in cars. And like he promised Face, he never let Mommy and Dad sleep alone and made sure they didn’t drown in baths. And Homer was the special kitty.
One day Homer was very tired, and Face came to see him. Mommy and Dad’s hearts were full. He’d done his job, it was time for the Rainbow bridge. Mommy held him close and gave him kisses and sang him away. He promised to wait at the Bridge for Mommy and Dad.
That’s the story of the kitty who wasn’t supposed to live 6 months and stayed 14 years. I can’t say I will be around for the comments. I can barely see to type.
